Statement Writer Terms of Use

Version 2026-09-01.1. Last updated: 1 September 2026.

These terms add to Section's Terms of Use and Privacy Policy. If they conflict on Statement Writer, these specific terms apply.

About Statement Writer

Statement Writer is an optional online drafting aid. It turns the wording you supply into an unverified draft. It is not an official police system, a signed MG11, legal advice, a decision-making system, or a substitute for force procedures, supervision or professional judgement.

Authority to use it

Use Statement Writer only if your force or organisation has authorised this service and the proposed processing. Accepting these terms does not replace force approval, a data protection impact assessment, information-assurance review, procurement or processor terms, a lawful basis, records of processing, transfer safeguards, or any other control your organisation requires. If you are unsure, do not submit operational material; ask your supervisor or data protection or information-assurance team.

Use placeholders only

Do not enter names, addresses, dates of birth, contact details, vehicle registrations, device or account identifiers, crime, case, CAD or incident references, witness or victim details, health or biometric information, intelligence, safeguarding material, protected operational tactics, or any other personal, sensitive or operational information. Use neutral placeholders such as SUBJECT, WITNESS, LOCATION and REFERENCE instead.

Section gives this firm instruction but does not inspect or reliably identify every name or identifier. The app does not reject ordinary wording merely because it resembles a name or uses a particular format. You are responsible for deciding what you are authorised to submit.

Your account and legal justification

You remain responsible for the source and accuracy of every fact, the actions you took, the powers and grounds relied on, and any necessity, proportionality or other legal justification. Do not ask Statement Writer to invent, infer or approve a power, ground, warning, decision, use of force or legal conclusion. Check the draft against your notes, evidence and the official record; correct or remove unsupported wording and complete placeholders only in an authorised official system.

AI limitations and human review

AI output may be false, incomplete, misleading, out of date, wrongly ordered or inconsistent with your words. Human review is mandatory. Do not sign, submit, disclose or rely on a draft until you have independently checked every line and followed your force's statement and disclosure procedures.

How data is handled

The current app keeps the working draft in memory on the device until one hour after your last change. Section does not write statement prompts or outputs to its application database and cannot retrieve a statement from those application records. Copying or sharing a draft is your separate action.

When you generate, the content passes through Section's Cloudflare-hosted API to protect the provider key and enforce Pro access and limits. It is then processed by Anthropic to return the draft. Section stores an opaque daily quota record, not statement text. Cloudflare processes request, network and security metadata needed to deliver and protect the service.

Under Anthropic's current standard commercial API policy, API inputs and outputs are deleted from its backend within 30 days, subject to longer retention for Usage Policy enforcement, legal requirements, different agreed retention, or a feature with longer customer-controlled retention. Section's Statement Writer uses the Messages API, not Anthropic's Files API. Anthropic's Commercial Terms say it may not train models on customer content. See Anthropic API retention, Anthropic Commercial Terms and Anthropic's Data Processing Addendum.

Responsibility

Section is responsible for providing the service with reasonable care and for obligations that applicable law and these terms place on Section. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded. You are responsible for your authorised use, the material you choose to submit, and the professional and evidential decisions you make after receiving a draft.

Questions

For questions about Section's processing, use the in-app feedback form or Section support. Do not send statement content or operational personal data in a support request.
